You can now display image ads through the Google content network

Many of you who advertise on Google also advertise across the content network. Usually, these ads are simple text links similar to how you advertise on Google.com's search pages. Google now offers you the chance to display image ads along with your search ads.

The cool part about this tool is that Google helps you to create these ads. So, you simply enter in the size of the advertisement you, want, the text and URL, and Google will create the ad unit for you. They will allow you to preview it so that you can also see how it looks and make any changes.

Now you may be wondering if these units perform better than text units. It completely varies from advertiser to advertiser. However, a great thing about Google is that you can do testing. So, you can test these image units in your content campaign, and if it performs well, you can ramp it up and add images to your campaign. If it doesn't work, you can simply go back to the way things are set up now. Using Ad Variations in your Google campaigns

When you advertise on Google, you write our copy for your ads. You enter a title, two lines of text, and a Display URL. There are several strategies you can use to try and maximize your click rate - one strategy is to test out multiple messages.

You can enter several messages to test, and Google will go ahead and rotate the different ad units. You can set Google to display the best performing unit. By doing this, you are putting Google to work for you as overtime, they will display the better performing unit more often. Or, you can do the optimization yourself, and you can display each unit evenly and then you can delete the units with a low click rate.

So, instead of guessing which message would work, enter 3 or 4 different ad units. Test them out, and you can easily see which ones have the highest click through rate.
